19 Things You Didn’t Know About Aoibhin Garrihy

From her favourite part about being a mam to her death-row meal.

Aoibhin Garrihy reveals she's due to give birth 'very soon' | Goss.ie

My favoutite thing about being a mam is the discoveries of things, you almost get a chance to be a kid again when you’re parenting. Hanorah is four, Liobhan is almost three and Isla is one, so they’re at the magical ages of wondering and discovering, it’s total joy.

My favourite season is summer. My birthday is in June, so is John’s and Hanorah’s. I love when the evenings are longer, it’s an instant mood booster.

My dad was the inspiration for my new book, he has a way with words and has always had such an influence on me. I also love Ann Casey, a poet from the west of Ireland.

The three people I’d love to have at a dinner party are Graham Norton, for the craic, Kate Winslet, she’s amazing, and Serena Williams.

I love Irish design. Brands that I’d love to spend on with no budget are Aoife MacNamara or Niamh O’Neil.

My favourite cocktail would be an espresso martini. I always make sure to get something that’s going to give me a bit of longevity for the night.

The best holiday I’ve ever been on was to Gordes in the south of France. It’s a tiny little French town. John and I got away for a few nights and it was bliss.

My signature scent would be lavender. My nana loved anything that smelled like lavender, maybe it reminds me of her? It’s so relaxing and its properties are good for sleep too.

The number one beauty product I couldn’t do without is concealer. I got a lot of pigmentation when I was pregnant so it’s definitely something I’m self-conscious of. I’d be lost without it.

My favourite Spice Girl is Sporty. I used to go around in the tracksuit bottoms and Filas, I took total style inspiration from her!

My favourite book is The Great Gatsby. I’ve read it three or four times and I could totally read it again.

My earliest memory is chasing a mouse round the house in my parent’s house in Doolin. I was setting a mouse trap for this really brazen mouse while we were all screaming and standing on chairs!

My most meaningful possession is my engagement ring. After my kids of course! I’d die if I lost it!

My idol would probably be my mam or my dad. It’s only when you become a parent you realise all they did and all they sacrificed. The amount of work they did and still kept going, that strikes you when you start on your own parenting journey.

When I was younger, I wanted to be a marine biologist. Growing up, I loved swimming and the seas and I was obsessed with dolphins. I had a fascination for sea life.

My death row meal would be my husband’s cottage pie. He rarely makes it but when he does it’s delicious. It’s the ultimate comfort food, it’s like a hug on a plate.

One place I’d love to travel to is Bali. I love the idea of it. Hopefully, I’ll go for my 40th!

My first part-time job was at Doolin Pier, selling tickets for the ferry boats that went to the Aran Islands and the Cliff of Moher. It was a great job, I loved it!

My favourite flower is a daisy. They remind me of picnics and making daisy chains when we were small. We made a long one and were convinced we’d enter it into the Guinness Book of Records but it shrivelled up and kept breaking!
