7 Of The Most Anticipated LGBTQ+ Films We’re Dying To See This Year

It's set to be a big year

It’s set to be a big year for film – and an even bigger year for LGBTQ+ film.

Queer stories are important. Not only do they create space for the experiences of members of the LGBTQ+ community, but they also introduce audiences to queer talent (both on and off the screen) that they otherwise might not have been aware of.

There are countless queer focused movies coming out in 2024 that we’ve put on our to-watch list.

Here’s 7 of our favourites.

1. All Of Us Strangers

Let’s kick off with the most anticipated film here at STELLAR HQ, All Of Us Strangers.

The romance/fantasy/drama written and directed by Andrew Haigh follows Adam (Andrew Scott) as he begins a relationship with his neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal), while working on a project inspired by his deceased parents.

Cue devastation, mystery, sadness, and a stunning depiction of memory as performed by two of Ireland’s most incredible actors.

In cinemas: January 26

2. Love Lies Bleeding

Kristen Stewart? Katy O’Brian? A24? Say no more, we will be sat.

Love Lies Bleeding is directed by Rose Glass and follows gym manager Lou, as she falls for Jackie, a bodybuilder headed to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. The romantic thriller promises violence, sex, and a lot of intensity. Bring it on.

In cinemas: March 8

3. Femme

After drag queen Jules is attacked by a man, he withdraws from the world… that is, until, he meets the man in a gay sauna and decides to strike up a relationship with him, intent on revenge.

This British thriller stars Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay, and is sure to be one of the most talked about queer films of 2024.

Out: now on MUBI

4. Challengers

It’s been delayed time and time (and time!) again, but Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers is finally landing in cinemas later this year.

Starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist, the film follows a tennis coach who’s caught into a love triangle with her husband and ex boyfriend. If the trailer is anything to go by, there’ll be lots of tension, shifting, and of course, sporting.

In cinemas: April 26

5. Good Grief

Dan Levy is a man in mourning. He’s just lost his husband, he’s adrift, and he needs to learn how to accept his new reality.

So ensues a tale of friendship, loss, and queer love that’s sure to leave you eager to hold those you love that little bit closer.

Out: now on Netflix

6. Drive-Away Dolls

Ethan Coen directs this comedy following free-spirit Jamie who embarks on a road trip with her friend Marian after yet another breakup. While on the road, the pair cross paths with a group of criminals – hilarity is likely to ensue.

Just look at this cast: Margaret Qualley, Beanie Feldstein, Geraldine Viswanathan, Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, and more. Obsessed.

In cinemas: March 15

7. On Swift Horses

Based on the book of the same name, On Swift Horses is a story of love, secrecy, and trauma. It’s also got Jacob Elordi, Daisy Edgar Jones, Diego Calva, and Will Poulter in it.

We’re listening.
