7 Reasons Why Crossroads Is Worth A Rewatch

What a flick.

Netflix

Crossroad is on Netflix now – did you know?

The 2002 film starring Britney Spears, Taryn Manning, and Zoe Saldana is a coming of age story, a road trip movie, a film about friendship, distance, family, sexual awakenings, pregnancy, Justin Long, and so many more things.

Is it a good film? Debatable. Is it a film steeped in nostalgia, okay acting, and bangin’ tunes? Yes, absolutely.

Here are 7 other reasons why Crossroads is the perfect gals watch.

1. The time capsule element

Who among us doesn’t go feral for a time capsule reveal?

When the girls dig up their shoebox after many, many years and discover all of the trinkets and memories they left in there, it’s a special moment.

It also inspired me and a pal to bury our own time capsule in a field in Dundrum when we were 9. We returned a week later to find that it had, of course, been stolen.

My friend had put her house keys in there.

2. The I Love Rock n’ Roll bit

Britney Jean slays it.

I will not be taking questions at this time.

3. It’s written by Shona Rhimes

Yes, Shonda Rhimes of Bridgerton, How to Get Away With Murder, and Grey’s Anatomy fame – that Shona Rhimes.

Though, arguably you wouldn’t actually know that she had anything to do with this script because it’s a bit all over the place, but listen, Shondaland had yet to materialise.

We forgive and we forget.

4. Justin Long’s scenes

Appearing briefly as Britney’s dorky, inexperienced high school boyfriend, Justin Long literally begs Britney to have sex with him.

Like, actually begs her. It’s crazy.

5. It’s funny

Whether intentionally or not, who can say. That Justin Long part as above – need I say more?

6. Some of it is actually quite touching, really

Taryn Manning is pregnant, and when she tragically miscarries, the girls rally around her and give her the support she needs.

Sure, in the next scene they seem to have conveniently forgotten all about that trauma but that’s okay.

7. Kim Cattrall reveal

Spoilers (sorry), but when Britney eventually meets her mother she answers the door and it’s literally Kim Cattrall standing there.

Samantha Jones is your mam and you’re telling me that you’re not even going to react? Okay so.
