Billie Eilish Has Called Out A Magazine For Putting Her On The Cover ‘Shirtless’ Without Her Consent
"I did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team."
Billie Eilish has taken to Instagram to call out a magazine for putting her on the cover without her permission.
This Nylon Germany revealed three digital covers, one of which was Billie Eilish in futuristic robot form.
The cover story was titled “DIGITAL PRODIGIES – the supernatural fembot faces of the future”.
“Welcome to the fucking full cover future,” the mag said. “@billieeilish is one of three cover stars for our new issue #8 on DIGITAL PRODIGIES, dropping this FRIDAY. This issue is all different while still keeping our NYLON spirit alive: We asked fans to tell the stories of three digital prodigies who are redefining the future of being a Teen Superstar…”
Billie then took to the magazine’s Instagram account to point out that she didn’t give permission for them to use her on the cover.
She also took issue with the fact that she’s ‘shirtless’ reminding the mag that she is just 17.
The Bad Guy singer wrote: “what the fuck is this shit.”
“i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team.
this is not even a real picture of me.”
She added: “I had absolutely no creative input. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me… i did not consent in any way.
ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY FUCKIN HAIR?booooooooooo to you??”
That’s them told!
Nylon has since updated the caption with an apology to Billie explaining that their aim was to be impactful…
“For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish. It was only ever our intention to honor Billies impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists. This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe – including us.“
Billie has regularly spoken out about her decision to wear baggy clothes in an effort to ensure her body is not spoken about.
“I never want the world to know everything about me,” she explained back in May.
“That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath,” she added.
