Brit Awards 2018: Stormzy And Dua Lipa Clean Up

They both took away two awards on Wednesday night.

Grime artist Stormzy and pop sensation Dua Lipa were the stars of last night’s Brit Awards, both taking home two awards each.

Britain’s most exciting breakthrough acts beat out some of the more experienced British artists such as Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher.

Stormzy took home the award for best British male and best British album for Gang Signs and Prayer. He beat Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher in the best British male category and Rag’n’Bone Man, J Hus, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran again for best British album.

The 24-year-old seemed overwhelmed by his successes on the night as he held his head in his hands as he walked to the stage to accept the award for best male, and fell to the ground when he was named winner of best album.

Ed Sheeran didn’t leave the awards empty handed however, as he took home the global success award.

Dua Lipa may have lost out to Stormzy in the best album category, however she still managed to sweep up two other major awards: best British female and British breakthrough artist. The Albanian singer brought her younger brother and sister on stage in a memorable moment while accepting her award for best breakthrough artist and told them “I love you” while millions watched.

She used her acceptance speech for best British female to send a message of female empowerment. “I want to thank every single female who’s been on this stage before me that has given girls like me – not just girls in the music industry but girls in society – a place to be inspired be, to look up to, and that have allowed us to dream this big,” she said.
