‘I Wasn’t Expecting To Come Home A Fiancée”: Aoife Walsh Talks Engagement Bliss

Aoife Walsh is flying high after coming back from Lisbon.

What she thought was just going to be a romantic getaway with her partner, Ben, turned into an even more special occasion as he popped the question.

“I’m just home and I’m completely thrilled and delighted and all of the happy feels,” she tells us at this year’s Hayu STELLAR InstaStar Awards.

“I definitely was not expecting it, it came as a massive shock. It’s really hard to get anything past me or fool me, I usually know everything that’s going on. For him being able to pull it off is such a big kudos. For me not to notice anything out of the ordinary was incredible.”

She gushes: “We got engaged in Lisbon, we had always planned to go to Lisbon. I wasn’t expecting to come home a fiancée. So I’m really excited. We’ve already started looking at wedding bits, we’re making ideas of what we might like to make plans. I’m really, really thrilled.

“My family are so, so happy. He fits in so well already with my family. My daughter Penny loves him as well. All of those are so important. When you get to this stage in life, you know when you know. I definitely knew early on that he was such a good person, such a kind, caring, thoughtful person. And he continues to be that. I feel very lucky to have met him.”

Just a handful of weeks earlier, she “hard launched” Ben on social media. Although she admits that they had been quietly going out away from social media for “quite a while”.

“I wanted to keep things offline and under wraps so we could have our own time in private to grow and flourish and progress our relationship. I was so protective of that. I didn’t want anything to go wrong. I was very happy to live my life offline with Ben and enjoying things. But then we got to a point where we knew we would be together for a long time.

“We knew we’d get married but I didn’t know when! He didn’t have a problem with being hardlaunched. He is such a big part of my life that I hadn’t shared. I thought I was being inauthentic not sharing with my followers that I had met someone very serious. So I thought I’d introduce him but I didn’t realise he had other plans! I’m happy that he was in existence before we got engaged or it would have been a little bit of a shock for everyone. It’s all very positive.”

So is wedding planning already started?

“It’s still very fresh. We’re enjoying the engagement part. We’ll take our time and plan a little party to get our friends together. We’ll be looking to plan the wedding soon. Ben is really hands on and really organised, he’ll definitely help out. He’s just brilliant, he’s just great!”
