Just over a year after Miley and Liam’s shock split, Miley has opened up about their divorce, suggesting that being ‘villainised’ in the press was actually worse to take in than the break up itself.

As a reminder, Miley and Liam were together for a whopping 10 years, then called time on their relationship after one year of marriage. According to People, a spokesperson at the time said, “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Later that year, Miley was spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter, which she said led to her being “villainised” in the press.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Miley said, “I recently just went through a very public divorce that f***ing sucked.

“What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realised that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore. That’s okay, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainising, and just all those stories [about it].”

Miley continued, “It’s amazing to me the public thinks that there’s no gap of time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this. It’s not, ‘One day you were happy on the [red] carpet and the next day you were making out with your friend in Italy, what the f**k?’ There’s a lot of time in between that you didn’t see.”

Speaking about her recent break up from Cody Simpson, and the fact that she’s now single, Miley explained, “I don’t need to be in a relationship at all. I don’t need a man or a woman that’s gonna take care of me, I can take care of me. I need them to be able to take care of them.”
