Selena Gomez opened up about how she felt as if she was “signing her life away” to Disney as a child. This comes from when she starred in The Wizards of Waverley Place in her early teens, saying she “didn’t know what [she] was doing.”

Currently starring in the TV series Only Murders in the Building, Selena spoke about starring on the Disney channel at such a young age while promoting the show at an event for the Television Critics Association.

“I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing,” she shared. “What I’d say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do [Only Murders in the Building].”

Revealing that while she was starring on the Wizards of Waverley Place, she was “just running around on set,” and that this is her first time back on a TV set since then.

“It’s really nice to be back on TV and it’s nice to be cast as my actual age, which never happens,” she explained, before adding, “I don’t know if I’m a good actor. I just do my job.”

Selena’s new show, Only Murders in the Building, follows three strangers who live in the same building, each with a shared obsession with true crime. It sounds a bit grisly, but will you be tuning in to see Selena in action again?

Only Murders in the Building will be released on Hulu on August 31, 2021.
