In recent weeks, Tyra Banks has been called out online for how she behaved during her time on America’s Next Top Model. People flocked to social media, to voice their opinions on Tyra’s behaviour and the many controversies surrounding her on the show, with messages suggesting that she ‘belongs in jail’.
The wide-ranging criticisms cover a lot of ground from Tyra’s time on the show. From asking contestants to change their ethnicities for shoots and mocking accents and tooth gaps, to acting aggressively to contestants on the show. There was also one incident where Tyra asked a contestant to partake in a photoshoot in an open grave, hours after she received a phone call about the death of a close friend.
Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you. Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs. ❤️

Now, Tyra has commented on her past behaviour, with many acknowledging it was her way of apologising, while others pointed out that she didn’t actually apologise in the tweet. “Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you. Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs.”
The replies to Tyra’s comment bounce back and forth between standing up for how she behaved at the time, and calling her out on the controversies.
I THINK YOU WERE JUST REFLECTING WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY WAS. You were being real with people about what they would hear from others & thus preparing them for the job… May have come off harsh, but the modeling industry ain’t no bitch 🤷🏽♂️

Don’t be a “Tyra” and conform to the industry.
Be a “Rihanna” and make the industry conform to you. pic.twitter.com/OOrKm9pXmU

Say more about this. Which choices were off? What was off about them? Mere acknowledgement and genuine apology are not the same thing

All the same, ANTM remains a firm favourite for viewers, even for just nostalgic reasons. But it seems even Tyra is on board with some of the comments about her behaviour.
