We’re Shook! This Is The Celeb Who Was Meant To Play Andy In The Devil Wears Prada

Turns out Anne Hathaway was the ninth choice, and yep, you read that correctly.

Although we truly couldn’t imagine the Devil Wears Prada without the iconic Anne Hathaway, it turns out that the directors didn’t even have her in the top 5 candidates when envisioning who should take the leading role.

According to the star herself, she explained that it was a battle for the role while on the American RuPaul’s Drag Race. Giving the queens some advice, Anne confessed that like any other industry, not everything is handed to you and you’ve got to earn and fight for your place, “hang in there and never give up,” Anne explained while spilling the tea on being ninth choice.

So, who was the original choice?

Well, according to People, it was none other that Mean Girls very own Regina George AKA Rachel McAdams. The directors wanted Rachel to play the part so bad that she turned down their offer multiple times before they started looking elsewhere.

As to why Rachel turned down the role despite being asked more than once, well, it seems like she’s very picky with what she chooses and tbh, rightly so. According to an interview she did with Elle in 2007, Rachel says she’s particular when it comes to what she takes on simply because she wants to be passionate about it, but never wants it to feel like it’s taking over her life.

“I’m not going to make movies just to make movies. I have to be passionate about it. And at the same time, I can get very distracted when I’m working, and I like to get back to my life a lot,” explained Rachel.

Well, we’re happy with how things turned out for sure. Despite our feelings on Nate, we sure love Andy and glad that Anne got the gig.
