Christmas Day Telly: The Best Of What’s On The Box Today

Happy Christmas! We hope you’re mooching around in your PJs already, suffering from a major food coma (we know we are). Here are some TV highlights that will make your couch-slobbing even lovelier.

Up

UP

1.35pm, RTE1
Is this the nicest film that’s ever been made? Quite possibly. We’re most definitely starting our afternoon with this Oscar-winning film and we reckon you should do too. A heartwarming and touching movie that will probably make you shed a tear, grab your sister or small cousin and get snuggled up on the couch.

Stuart Little

Stuart-Little-Stills-Wallpapers

4.40pm, TV3
What’s Christmas day without an overdose of animated fun!? We’re switching over to Stuart Little after we finish watching Up. Mouse Stuart is adopted by The Little family but he has a bit of trouble heading his way, in the form of The Little Family’s household cat. A charming movie that will pass the afternoon nicely.

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 6

strictly26.15pm, BBC1
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkelman host this festive special and are joined by some fairly famous faces. Watch as the celebrities perform routines themed around festive favourites including Alice In Wonderland, Jack Frost and Scrooge in a bid to be crowned Christmas champions.

Father Ted’s Christmas Special

ted11

6.45pm, More 4
Father Ted is an Irish family’s favourite and this is probably one of the funniest episodes ever. It’s a nightmare Christmas as Father Ted and Father Dougal get lost in the vast lingerie section of a department store. You’ll be laughing your (ahem!) pants off to this one.

One Direction: This Is Us

onedirectionbiginside1

7.05pm, RTE2
If you’re a 1D fan, tune into their behind the scenes documentary which follows the boys on one of their sold-out tours. It gives a glimpse of their rise to fame; from their humble upbringings to their X Factor discovery and finally to their conquering of the world! If you’e not a fan, it’s still an interesting and easy one to watch, so grab some Miniature Heroes and tune in.

Robin Hood

8pm, More 4
Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett give two pretty good performances in this adaption of Robin Hood. It’s a tale of bravery, corruption, uprising and a bit of love. Tuck into some leftover dessert and a selection box and get the feet up.

Pitch Perfect

Pitch-Perfect-2-header

8.35pm, RTE2
This movie is surprisingly hilarious thanks to Rebel Wilson’s LOL-worthy performance. It’s energetic and fun and will definitely give you some evening giggles. You might have difficulty persuading your brothers or Dad to watch it but if you succeed, they’ll probably end up enjoying it too.

Mrs Brown’s Boys

Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special

9pm, BBC1
At this stage, it’s guaranteed you’ll be well and truly stuffed and nearly laughed out of it. Tuck yourself up with the fam and watch Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas special. Watch Agnes get her tinsel in a twist as chaos descends on The Brown Family. The show drew 15 million viewers last Christmas and the BBC is expecting similar numbers this year.

Happy watching!
