Critics’ Choice Awards 2019: The Most Memorable Moments
Celebs doing things..our fave.
The 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards took place in Santa Monica last night and like most award shows, there were some memorable moments on the red carpet and during the show that are worth noting. Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood showed up to the event, many of who attended the Golden Globes last Sunday. From fire red carpet looks to sweet acceptance speeches, here’s what the celebs got up to at last night’s event.
John Krasinski dedicated his award to Emily Blunt
These two are arguably the most talented/cutest couple in Hollywood, and they took their relationship on-screen last year in horror film A Quiet Place. John directed and wrote the screenplay for the film, which took home the award for best sci-fi/horror movie, and decided to make the sweetest speech ever dedicating the award to his fam.
He began, “Thank you so much. Wow. I don’t know what’s going on right now. I blacked out about six seconds ago. I want to say thank you to all the incredible kindness that has been shown to this film.”
“The critics, but most of all, everyone out there that’s seen or loved this movie. It means the absolute world to our crew and to our cast.”
He continued, “I got to make a movie about a love story and a love letter to my kids. I got to do it with the love of my life by my side, so I’m pretty sure it doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you so much.”
Lady Gaga shared the meaning behind her song ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born
Lady Gaga won the award for best song at last night’s show, and during the acceptance speech told the audience what the lyrics meant to her. Gaga remembered showing the song to her co-star and director Bradley Cooper, saying “I will never forget singing it for Bradley for the first time and seeing his face light up.”
She continued to say: “This song is a conversation between men and women, asking each other questions about life and a desire for more depth of the shallowness of a modern era.”
Gaga said she was “so happy it resonated” with the fans and critics who handed her the award. Deserved.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend showed up super hungover
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend celebrated his 40th birthday with a big bash on Saturday night, so it’s safe to say they were feeling a bit ropey on Sunday morning. In a series of Instagram videos, Chrissy recorded herself while still in bed lamenting the fact that she needed to get dressed for the show.
“Oh my God,” the 33-year-old said as she sat in bed with takeaway containers everywhere. “This is my bed and I have to get ready for Critics Choice.” Then she questioned which award show it even was. “Wait, is it People’s Choice?” she asked. “I seriously don’t know.”
She then posted another video from the car looking gorgeous in a strapless white dress and dark lipstick. “This was a huge mistake,” she whispered to the camera. We’ve all been there.
For the first time ever there were shared awards
For the first time in award show history, there were tied winners for two awards that were announced last night. Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette tied for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television, Amy for Sharp Objects and Patricia for her performance in Escape at Dannemora.
“I actually can’t think of a more beautiful thing than a tie because there really isn’t a winner when we get to do such great work and we have such wonderful opportunities,” Amy explained. “I’m overwhelmed. I have so many people to thank but I don’t want to take it up.”
Lady Gaga and Glenn Close also shared the award for best actress, Gaga for A Star Is Born while Glenn was recognised for The Wife. An emotional Gaga revealed her mother and Glenn Close are “good friends”, adding: “So I’m so very happy she won this this evening.”
