Dixie D’Amelio Reveals What It’s Like Living With Premenstrual Dysmorphic Disorder
“No — I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to want to die every month before you got your period.”
In October 2022, Dixie D’Amelio was diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysmorphic Disorder (PMDD), a much more severe version of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).
It causes a number of emotional and physical symptoms every month during the week or two before your period some of which include mood swings, lack of energy, feeling hopeless, difficulty concentrating, joint and muscle pain, feeling bloated as well as severe anger towards people around you.
Dixie revealed her diagnosis last October on Instagram Live, where she said: “I wasn’t feeling great and not really sure why. I recently got diagnosed with this thing called PMDD, which is premenstrual dysphoric disorder. It really affects your moods and your behaviour and many different parts of your life.”

She revealed during the premiere of season two of The D’Amelio Show that her symptoms include: “Basically, extreme anxiety, depression, losing the will to live and a lot of irritability and anger. Hopefully, the people around me can understand that.”
Chatting to US Weekly Dixie noted, while she’s learning to live with PMDD, she sometimes lands in a “very dark place”.
She continued adding: “It’s just such a back and forth and it’s never something I think I’ll ever have a complete handle on, but I am getting better at it. Being able to talk to my parents — I talked to my dad last night … he understands he doesn’t need to fix everything, but I just want him there for me and he can do that and so can my mom.
Premenstrual Dysmorphic Disorder has affected every single aspect of Dixie’s life in a negative way. She explained that while it’s like extreme PMS it feels a hundred times worse.
“People are going to be like, ‘Oh my god, everyone gets that. No — I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to want to die every month before you got your period,” she explained during a confessional on the show.

The disorder has even affected her relationship with her younger sister Charli, who was competing on Dancing With The Stars when the TikTok star received her diagnosis.
Charli said: “I’ve done my own research on PMDD to kind of understand, at least, a little bit, but she’s never really explained it to me.”
Dixie revealed she would love to advocate for more people who are going through the pain of PMDD.
She said: “When you’re going through it so often, it’s hard to do anything when you get taken off the tracks for two weeks every month”
