Everything We Know About Charli xcx’s, The Moment
Brat summer is forever
Brat summer might have technically been nearly two summers ago now, but the brat mentality of neon bright lights and lower-case letters have continued to follow us as Charli xcx is set to release her new mockumentary style film The Moment next month.
The singer song writer became a summer sensation after her album Brat, went viral all over TikTok. Everyone from major TikTok creators to political representatives and anyone in between was doing the ‘Apple’ dance, and with every post saw Charli career grow bigger and bigger.
The chaotic party girl finished her international tour at the end of last year, just after she announced this new film project of hers. The idea for this film came about after being Charli was completely taken back from the success of her tour that grossed $23.5 million and wanted to give something back to her fans. While a concert film may have seen like the obvious choice, Charli wanted to do something more creative and self-expressive.

This film is a satire type comedy, where Charli plays a fictionalised version of herself. The documentary style follows Charli as she prepares for the rest of her Brat tour, while dealing with pressures and opinions from management and outsiders to keep Brat summer going forever.
Charli had this idea to show the world what it is like to be immersed in this fame and how different private and public life can be at this time. To bring her idea to life, she worked alongside Aidan Zamiri, who has worked with Charli before on her infamous ‘360’ music video. Zamiri helped write this film with Charli and Bertie Brandes, while also taking lead as director.
While Charli does play herself in this film, it is entirely fiction, but she commented that it is the realest depiction of the music industry that she has seen. When speaking to the Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of the movie at the Sundance film festival, Charli said “The characters and events [in the film] aren’t actually based on things that happened… we have all met versions of the type of characters in the film.”
This movie features some well-known names as Charli stars alongside Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, as well as Alexander Skarsgard and Rachel Sennott.
Kylie Jenner and Julie Fox are also set to make a cameo appearance throughout the film, which will be very interesting to see! A.G Cook, English record producer and good friend of Charli’s, is also involved as he is set to write an original soundtrack for the film.
After the premiere at Sundance last Saturday, reviews for the film have been flooding in with very mixed opinions all round. Some critics have commented that the film was just ok, but whether you loved it or not, the overall concensus from most reviews is that it is a film that will stay with you. However, on the opposite scale, others claimed the film to be an utter disaster.

Although some reviews are mixed, one thing the critics can agree on is Charli’s performance throughout, with high praise coming from this portrayal of herself.
It seems that this film may not be heading home with many awards next season, but it set to be a fun, creative look at the industry and an enjoyable watch for die hard Charli fans.
This chaotic mockumentary is set to release on Friday, January 30 across cinemas in the United States, while Irish fans will have to wait slightly longer, with the Irish release date on the 2oth of February.
And who knows, maybe this new release means we get to experience a Brat summer one final time before we say goodbye?
