Everything We Know About Michael D Higgins’ New Puppy

We're not crying, you are

Our little hearts skipped a beat last week when a picture of President Michael D Higgins and his beloved dog Bród standing beside a baby Bernese Mountain Dog.

As we all remember, last year President Higgins tragically lost one of his two dogs, Síoda, after a short illness. With a year already filled with bad news, naturally, the nation was heartbroken for the family, as the President and his fluffy dogs have become an iconic symbol for Ireland in recent times.

Some months after Síoda’s passing, President Higgins has welcomed a new addition to the family to keep Bród company. Confirming the news yesterday, Áras an Uachtaráin said that there is indeed a ‘puppy in training’ residing in the official residence.

Revealing the little one’s name, the spokesperson said:

“The president has a Bernese Mountain Dog in training. He is 5 months old and, given the time we are in, the president has given him the name ‘Misneach,’ which translates as courage.”

Back in 2018 Michael D Higgins spoke about his love for his dogs and the Bernese Mountain breed, saying:

“They’re a very sociable breed and they’re very safe children, and I’ve always had dogs all my life.”

Welcome little Misneach, the nation adores you already!
