EYNTK About Lena Dunham And Lily Collins’ Polly Pocket Film

Next, we want a Pixel Chix movie.

It looks like Mattel have had a field day with Barbie The Movie, and now they’re keen on continuing the nostalgic toys buzz. Producers have confirmed that there’s a script based on Polly Pocket in the works, starring none other than Lily Collins as Polly Pocket herself, and directed by Lena Dunham, who’s best known for her work with HBO’s Girls.

The concept for the movie has been toyed with for some time, with Lily even announcing it on her Instagram in 2021, though it seems to have flown under the radar until the Barbie buzz drew attention to it.

Speaking about her upcoming project, Lena shared that “Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me.

“Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director.”

She added that she is “so thrilled” to be portraying her “deep-seated belief that young women need smart, playful films that speak to them without condescension.”

Speaking about Lily’s involvement, a Mattel producer gushed; “Lily is so smart and so specific and so productorial. It’s just been an incredible collaboration, so we are thrilled about it.”

When it comes to finer details – there’s not much to go on. We know that Lily will be starring as Polly, while also working as a producer. Production is yet to start which means it will be a while before this film lands in our cinemas, especially considering the current writer’s strikes.

But we do know that Barbie and Polly Pocket are only the tip of the iceberg; with an alleged 45 films in the works from Mattel, now being nicknamed the ‘Mattel Cinematic Universe’.

One of these is set to be a Barney film with Daniel Kaluuya.

We feel like we’re stepping into our childhoods again!
