Gavin & Stacey Is Reportedly Returning For Christmas – Again

UPDATE: Creator Ruth Jones has since dismissed this claim as a “rumour” :(.

It looks like Gavin & Stacey is returning for another Christmas special later this year.

The much loved sitcom is reportedly in the early planning stags for a comeback, as its stars have discussed expanding the story beyond its original ending five years ago.

Deadline reports that “the sitcom from James Corden and Ruth Jones will film a new episode over the summer with a view to airing at Christmas time this year, five years on from the previous ratings-topping special.

“We are told the series is in development/pre-production and cameras will roll in a few months time on the show, which is produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow, Jones’ Tidy Productions and Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by Corden.”

Gavin & Stacey’s last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger which saw Nessa proposing to Smithy after years of sexual tension… and actual sex.

The series’ 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched show in 10 years in the UK bringing in more than 18 million viewers.

It’s looking like that most of the original cast will be returning for this year’s special, including Corden, Jones, Matthew Horne, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Julia Davis.

Last year Page, who plays Stacey, told the Mail Online that she wasn’t sure about the show’s future.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t get the call, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I did,” she said. “If there is a comeback, I’ll find out at the same time as the public because I don’t get told anything.”

Make it happen, lads.
