Glee’s Heather Morris Warns Fans To ‘Hold Off’ On Citizen Search For Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera was reported missing on Wednesday, July 8th.

Heather Morris has revealed that over the past couple of days, she has been in close contact with Ventura County Sheriff’s department, who are currently leading the search for her friend and fellow Glee star, Naya Rivera.

First sparking public discussion on Saturday, Heather tweeted the officers asking to help after they admitted they were “winding down” for the night, after continued unsuccessful findings in looking for Naya.

Looking to up the volume of those helping, Heather wrote:

“I’m trying to conduct an on foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru.”

“I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and want to help in any way,” Heather added.

However, since then, Heather has received thousands of messages from those also eager to help and so, has retracted her words.

After having a discussion with Sheriff Eric Buschow, Heather now knows that this is not the time to conduct a citizen’s search, and has asked others to “hold off”, while the police investigation still goes on and to wait until people are given the green light to volunteer.

Ventura County Sheriff also noted that the lake is currently closed, the area around it is rugged and dangerous and their team “doesn’t want to rescue you” albeit the best intentions.

The police also noted that Naya’s mother and brother are down at the lake everyday helping out and “involved in the search”.

Naya Rivera was presumed dead on Thursday after she went missing at Lake Piru, leaving her 4-year-old son Josey on a boat alone.

Explaining that they’re still hopeful of finding Naya despite low visibility on the lake floor, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Captain Eric Buschow said in a press conference on Friday that the search is still going on and “we don’t know if she’s going to be found five minutes from now or five days from now.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Naya’s family and close friends.
