Food columnist and restaurant critic Grace Dent left the I’m A Celebrity jungle on Monday, leaving fans shocked by her hasty exit.

With no announcement or signs of wanting to leave, Grace simply didn’t appear around the campsite on Tuesday, leaving her campmates with a note.

“My Dear campmates,” wrote Grace, “I’m so sorry to let you down. I have left the camp for medical reasons. My heart is broken, I have loved and enjoyed getting to know you all.

“You’ve held me up and it’s been a pleasure being your friend through this experience. Leaving you all at this stage will be one of the saddest things in my life. I love you all. Your friend, Miss Grace Dent.”

Her fellow contestants were devastated to learn that she had left, with Eastenders’ Danielle Harold even shedding a few tears for her friend.

They’re an emotional bunch this year!

Now, Grace has penned a lengthy Instagram post discussing how tough she found the experience, and acknowledging her privilege.

Addressing her followers, the food critic thanked them for the support, before writing “I am overwhelmingly sad right now, but determined to keep alive in my heart the huge personal breakthroughs I made over the weeks. I spent 15 days without a phone or any contact with loved ones, living much of the time outdoors in a rain forest in very wet weather.

“It gave me a short, sharp glimpse into the pain some folk worldwide endure. Normal life, forever, will always feel beautiful.”

Grace went on to detail some of her more icky experiences from down under, including sleeping among “hungry rats” and “huntsman spiders”, eating “hare innards”, and finding “mealworms” living in the “right cup” of her bra. Yikes.

One particular experience Grace shared involved a bug stuck in her ear: “For as long as I live, I shall never forget the cockroach that entered my ear canal and the sound of its little feet creeping closer down to my brain. It took us two goes to lure him out.”

Finally, Grace told her fans that despite her disappointment at leaving early, she felt “at some level, this *must* be an achievement.”

She outlines her next plan as being dedicated to recovery and eating a three course meal.

We feel you girl!
