Tapered candles are the hottest accessory for your home these days.

There’s just something so romantic about a long candle that melts slowly, so the dripping wax becomes an accessory in itself.

And even cuter than the twisty ones we’ve grown accustomed to, are the hand painted ones springing up everywhere!

You can adorn your candles with just about anything; flowers, swirling vines, fruit, smiley faces – the world is your oyster.

Here’s how to do it!

Gather your materials

Before you start, you’ll need to gather your materials.

First, find candles you want to paint. We recommend the classic, straight, tapered candles to make life easier for you, but feel free to pick some interesting shapes if you’re brave enough!

Next, you need your paint; acrylic works best.

It’s important that it’s non-toxic, water-based acrylic paint for a safe burn when you light your candle.

Lastly, you need some brushes! Try to choose brushes with a fine tip for a more precise doodle.

Set up your station

Unless you’re an artist or paint for a hobby, you might have forgotten how to set up your painting station!

Take it right back to primary school by covering your table with newspaper, so nothing gets stained.

Have kitchen roll and a glass of water nearby so you can rinse your brash and dab off the excess water.

You might want to pull up some inspo pics, or draw what you want to replicate first so you have a point of reference.

Get painting!

Now, you can finally start painting!

Be careful not to get too close to your wick; it’s better for the paint to start a little down the candle.

We love doing arts and crafts with some relaxing tunes in the background, or while watching our fave comfort show.

It’s the ultimate chill activity, and you end up with some beautiful home decor too!
