Here’s What’s Going On With The GAA Catfish Update

There's more to the story..

The 2 Johnnies have released an unexpected part 3 of the GAA Catfish series – and listeners are hooked.

The original episodes of the GAA catfish saga were first released in 2022 after Johnny B came to the realisation that he was a victim of catfishing.

After telling the bizarre story at one of their shows in 2022, many victims of similar situations came forward.

Following many coincidences and a lot of investigating, all accounts involved seemed to be linked to the same woman. Nikki (a fake name given for the sake of anonymity) had been relentlessly catfishing GAA players and Irish personnel all across the country.

Johnny B detailed what he went through and gave an insight into the complex life that ‘Cora’ had created and the lengths she went to to keep up the ruse, not just with him, but other men in Ireland too.

And now, almost 3 years on, the situation takes another turn.

In an episode posted on the 2 Johnnies podcast feed today, the pair said they felt obliged to share the information and stories that had been presented to them in recent months.

The pair released a statement following the upload of the podcast explaining that, “As we began to understand the scale of the issue, we felt compelled to take action.” They also reassured listeners that the goal of the episode is not to “harm or shame anyone” but rather to highlight a serious issue affecting many across the country.

In the latest episode, Johnny B and Johnny Smacks speak of the aftermath of the original episodes. Emails flooded in claiming to be Nikki’s mother, pleading for the GAA catfish series to be deleted and never mentioned again due to its toll on her daughter’s well-being. The pair were even asked by the BBC to take part in a documentary on the incident; however, they decided it was best not to go ahead without Nikki’s involvement.

And while the catfishing appeared to have largely stopped, the pair were made aware this year of more suspicious accounts on dating apps and Instagram, targeting GAA and hurling county players in a similar manner.

This new episode dives into the activity of the new accounts, that the 2 Johnnies believe to be run by Nikki, as well as the experiences of one man who has been accused of sexual assault by one of the accounts.

What’s more is these accounts are all connected to each other, in order to make the people and stories sound more realistic. Fake family members, deaths and liver transplants are just a few of the stories told by the accounts in the episode.

The 2 Johnnies also chat to a psychologist to discuss why a person would continuously catfish others, and what such a person hopes to gain from this act.
