Iain Stirling has revealed his shock and delight to be up for a Bafta award this year. Receiving a nomination under the entertainment category alongside colleagues Mark Busk-Cowley, Steve Kruger and James Tinsley, Iain noted how much of an honour it is to be named as part of the team, especially after such a tough year.

“On a personal note, to be named here and considered one of the team when all I do is talk into a microphone for a few hours has touched me more than anyone will ever know.

“Well done Love Island! Caroline – this ones for you,” the 32-year-old wrote on Instagram.

Caroline Flack stood down from presenting the 2020 winter series of the show following allegations of assault towards her boyfriend, Lewis Burton. Then, on February 15 at the age of 40, the TV presenter died by suicide.

Following her death Love Island took a break to mourn, and take in the heartbreaking news. Caroline was the heart of the show for five seasons and so, the return was a difficult and challenging one for those who knew her and loved her, like Iain.

“Caroline and me were together from the very start of Love Island, and her passion, warmth and enthusiasm were what connected the show with millions of viewers. ‘My only hope, is that we can try and be kinder, always show love and try and listen to one another.

“Caroline, I want to thank you for the fun times we had making our favourite show. You meant everything to me. I’m gonna miss you, Caz.”

Love Island which was set to start airing again yesterday, June 3rd has been cancelled for summer 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show however, hopes to make a return next year.
