Irish Celebrities Call For Ceasefire in Gaza Following Deadly Airstrikes

This week, an area of Rafah in Gaza was hit repeatedly by Israeli airstrikes.

The area was deemed a “safe zone” for Palestinians who were forced to flee their homes over the last seven months.

According to reports, the airstrike killed at least 45 civilians with harrowing videos coming out of the area that showed the mass destruction.

The latest attack has caused global outrage with millions calling for a ceasefire.

Irish celebrities have once again used their platforms to raise awareness and urge for more intervention.

Nicola Coughlan, who has been outspoken on the Israeli invasion and has been constantly wearing her Ceasefire pin, began a new fundraising event after raising €70,000 for Medical Aid Palestine.

“My last fundraiser has just ended and I want to thank you so much for raising an incredible €70,000 for @medicalaidpal,” she wrote.

“Wanted to set up a new one today to benefit @thepcrf, please donate/share if you can.”

This will raise money for Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

Nicola shared several Instagram Stories raising awareness to the events that took place this week. She shared a video of the children who live in that small part of Rafah.

“These were the children that lived in the tents that were burnt last night from IOF airstrikes. They are not just numbers. Journalist Duaa Tuaima says she’s not sure which ones are still alive,” the text on the video read.

Roz Purcell shared a post on Instagram with a sign that read: “All Eyes on Rafah” and another that said: “Your silence will be studied by your grandkids”.

She captioned the post: “I said this back in November. But in history class when we learned about g*nocide and horrific acts like these… you would think how did no one stop it? What about the all the other people / leaders of the world? How was nothing done?

“Frame 2 is specifically aimed towards the leaders/ massive celebrities of the world doing nothing.”

Hozier, who has called for a ceasefire while performing for the last few months, shared an Instagram Story demanding the Irish government to stop letting the US Army use Shannon Airport. A protest has been organised at the Dáil on Kildare Street on Wednesday 29th between 12pm and 2pm.

Vogue Williams shared a post by Choose Love, writing: “There are really no words for this… #ceasefirenow.”

Rosie Connolly wrote: “There is no doubt about it, the people of Gaza have been on my mind for months.

“I’ve seen every video, every horrific image.. etched in my brain and something none of us will ever be able to unsee. I have let fear stop me from voicing this online which just isn’t good enough anymore.

“What we are witnessing day in day out is nothing short of barbaric, and as a mother I cannot unsee the absolute horror of children being bombed as they sleep.

“I stand with every single person who’s been braver than I have, that has shouted from the rooftops for an immediate ceasefire. I regret not sharing more on my platforms sooner but thank you to those who continue to lead the way and use their voices loudly and bravely.”

Gráinne Seoige shared a statement that read: “Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mícheál Martin has described the Israeli strikes on a refugee camp in Rafah last night as ‘barbaric’.

“This is on top of the hunger, on top of the starvation, the refusal to allow aid in in sufficient volumes.

“Some have said that our decision to recognise the State of Palestine as move to impose an outcome on the parties or, as somehow a reward for terror. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
