John Legend Is Pointing Out The Sexist Double Standards of Mommy-Shaming
"We’re both parents and we make it work.”

Any mum will know that mommy-shaming is unfortunately pretty common. All you have to do is look at a well-known blogger who is also a mother and see her get given out to in the comments for various unjustified reasons.
We see it from people who have an issue with breastfeeding or an issue with not doing it, we see comments about not going back to work and going back to work too soon. You can quickly realise that people will always have something to say.
Chrissy Teigen is no stranger to mom-shaming, and as someone who regularly posts on social media she is often being all out in the comments for something ridiculous.
She had to defend herself for eating colourful cereal while pregnant with Luna, for going out too soon after her daughter was born and even for the way she held her own child.
But her husband (and father of her two kids Luna and Miles) John Legend has pointed out, you just don’t see it with dads.
“People were shaming Chrissy for leaving the house, and didn’t say anything bad to me,” the singer told Romper.
He pointed out that there are two parents in that relationship, and yet nothing is said to him when it comes to how his children are raised.
“Look, we’re both parents and we’re both going out. If you think that’s not appropriate — and first of all, you shouldn’t think that’s not appropriate — if you’re going to blame somebody, blame both of us, not just the mother.”

John explained that as a couple they divide and conquer when it comes to minding their two kids.
“I feel like we tag-team or we split, especially when Miles was first born and when it came to breast-feeding and having that be a regular part of the ritual with him”. “Chrissy had to tend to him more than I could, so I took it upon myself to really make sure Luna was good. So we kind of split off that way.”

The singer added: “We just figure out who needs what and try to do what we can and never look at it as, ‘This is Chrissy’s job and this is my job.’ This is our job, together. We’re both parents and we make it work.”
It’s not the first time John has pointed this out, because unfortunately, it seems people need to be reminded. In 2016 after Luna was born, he had to remind followers that if they had a problem with his wife going out, they should also have a problem with him going out.
“Funny there’s no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it,” he said.
