Julia Roberts is undoubtedly one of the most enduring stars of this era and now she is set to receive the Academy Museum Gala Icon Award at the second annual Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures Gala later this year.

Already the recipient of three Golden Globes, an Oscar and a SAG Award, it looks like the A-lister will have to make some room on her mantle for the prestigious award come October, when the event will be taking place.

The actress joins previously announced honorees Tilda Swinton, winning the Visionary Award and Steve McQueen, winning the Vantage Award, while Miky Lee, producer of Parasite will be presented with a Pillar Award.

The awards reflect the museum’s mission to advance the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema and to expand knowledge and conversation about cinema as a global artform and cultural force. So to receive one is a pretty big deal!

Jacqueline Stewart, Director and President of the Academy Museum shared her excitement for the actress in a statement saying: “Over the course of her expansive and renowned career, Julia has embodied iconic characters and memorable roles. We are thrilled to be honouring her continued excellence in the industry and contribution to the arts.”

The mother of three was most recently seen as Martha Mitchell in the Starz Limited Series, Gaslit, while her highly anticipated return to rom-coms is set to be released six days after the gala’s ceremony, where she will star opposite George Clooney in Ticket To Paradise. Coincidence we think not!

Presented by Rolex and co-hosted by Halle Berry, Jason Blum, Lupita Nyong’o and Ryan Murphy, the evening hopes to raise funds to support the museum’s access, education, and programming initiatives.

The inaugural 2021 gala raised more than $11 million so we can only imagine the amount it will raise this time around!

As far as the gala host committee goes, well you can expect names such as Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jessica Alba, Jon Hamm, Kate Hudson and Ron Howard to name but a few.

Looks to be one hell of a night!
