Katy Perry is leaving American Idol after seven seasons on the show.

The superstar has been a judge on the show since 2018, but has decided to leave so she can focus on her music.

Katy broke the news during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night, telling him, “I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”

When asked how long she planned to stay on the talent show Katy explained how she will be leaving to focus on her music and to go to a music festival called Rock In Rio in Brazil.

She said “In September I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock In Rio. It’s really exciting.

“It’s a big deal. It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially for my Brazilian fans. I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol. I mean, I love Idol so much.”

The 39-year-old continued “It’s connected me with, like, the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”

Katy will be leaving her fellow American Idol judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, and when asked what they said about her leaving, Katy replied “Well, they’ll find out tonight!”

Umm…what?!

Katy went on, “They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while. So, they figure something is different.”

Host Jimmy Kimmel went on to ask Katy if she had a replacement lined up for her spot as a judge which she replied, “Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan.” Intriguing.

Katy will definitely be missed on American Idol but were happy for her and can’t wait to see what she does next.

You go girl!
