Lea Michele Addresses Rumours That She Can’t Read In The Best Possible Way

For those who may not be aware, there have been bizarre rumours swirling around the past couple of years surrounding Lea Michele and her reading ability…honestly, how do people come up with these things?!

Having already dismissed the claims as “sad” and sexist in a New York Times interview, the actress has now decided to poke fun at herself and her haters in the best possible way.

While in her final days of a COVID-19 quarantine amid a 10-day absence from Funny Girl, a Broadway musical that she recently joined, Lea set up her own TikTok account where she posted two videos, including one which addresses the long-standing rumour.

In the video, the former Glee star used audio from an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where she is seen holding a phone as if she’s speaking to someone while lip-synching to the audio from the reality show which sees Kim Kardashian taking a phone call with her friend, Joe Francis.

“Hey,” Lea mouths. “Hi, how is it?” Joe responds. “It’s amazing, but wait, can you talk for a sec?” she says — and the caption? “Calling Jonathan to read me the comments on my first TikTok.”

The “Jonathan” in question is presumably Jonathan Groff, Lea’s bestie and former Spring Awakening co-star.

Fans were quick to flood the comment section, where they applauded the star for hitting back on those who filed the rumours, with one writing, “LEA NO YOU DID NOTTT I AM SCREAMING,” while another wrote, “This is funny girl.”

The rumours in question first surfaced in 2018 after a couple of podcasters shared the theory on Facebook. Shortly after thet began circulating, the actress was then asked about the rumours on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she expressed how baffled she was about the whole thing.

She quickly shut them down by explaining that she got accepted into NYU and that even Glee creator Ryan Murphy called her after they began surfacing, asking “Do people think I have time in my life to do this?”
