"I can speak personally too. I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female."

It’s safe to say that Meghan Markle has had a whirlwind few years, to put it lightly. In honour of World Mental Health Day, Meghan spoke about her own mental health.

She and Prince Harry recently appeared on the Teenage Therapy podcast, hosted by five seniors at a California high school, in honour of World Mental Health Day.

On the podcast, Meghan spoke about the pros and cons of social media in this day and age, saying that it’s “a great way to connect, but it also ends up being a place where there’s a lot of disconnection.” She then added, “I can speak personally too. I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female.”

In 2019, Meghan was pregnant with baby Archie, and was still receiving a scary amount of hate online. “Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible—I was on maternity leave or with a baby,” she explained. “But what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”

She continued, “That’s so big you can’t even think of what that feels like. I don’t care if you’re 15 or you’re 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.

“Even though our experience is unique to us and obviously can seem very different to what people can experience on the day-to-day, it’s still a human experience—and that’s universal. We all know what it feels like to have our feelings hurt, we all know what it feels like to be isolated or othered.”

This comes after Meghan opened up about how she was handling public scrutiny in an interview for the Harry & Meghan: An African Journey documentary while on the royal tour in Africa. Sharing that not many checked in with her on how she was feeling or her emotional well-being at the time.

She explained about that comment, “I was tired. I was just about to give Archie a bath. I was exhausted.”

Harry added, “She was still breastfeeding at the time,” and Meghan said that “between every official engagement I was running back to make sure our son was fed.”
