#MyBlogLife: We Meet Blogger Ciara O’Doherty
Trends, tipples and top buys: we get the down-low from one of Ireland's most stylish bloggers, Ciara O'Doherty.
How did your blog start?
I started my blog almost four years ago now, wanting to share my inspirations and daily outfits with others.
Best opportunity
Blogging and freelance broadcasting work is now my full-time job, which I feel very lucky about! I love getting the opportunity to work with new brands and creatives.
Time spent blogging
Three to five days a week, depending on how many other freelance projects I might be working on.
Top freebie
It’s the experiences that always win out over the clothes – I get to go on trips, to concerts, and other fun adventures for free, and that’s the greatest feeling!
What’s your must-have make-up?
I love a good luminiser gel. I like to mix in with my foundation for a dewy, light finish. I’m currently using the No 7 version and it works wonders!
What’s in your handbag?
On a blogging day my handbag is my kit, so I’ll usually have a DSLR camera, a spare lens, a small fish-eye lens plus charging case for my iPhone, some make-up for touch-ups, and a notebook for jotting down ideas. Oh – and my Filofax because I can never remember anything without it!
Don’t feel pressured to splash out on the latest trends or must-have items.
What scent are you wearing?
I’m loving Coco Noir by Chanel. It’s a luxurious, night-time scent.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style’s a mix of ’70s tomboy meets ’60s girlie-girl, with a bit of eccentricity thrown in!
Fail-safe outfit
Ankle boots, leather trousers, a loose-fitting, printed shirt, plus an oversized coat.
What item do you think every woman should have in her wardrobe?
A good biker jacket and the perfect ankle boots; they can take you anywhere.
Favourite online shopping sites?
Asos, iClothing, Romwe and Sheinside.
Favourite high-street shops?
Zara and River Island always hit the spot.
Who does it for you, style inspo-wise?
I love the way Alexa Chung never looks too ‘done’ – she nails that off-beat look. She’s definitely an inspiration!
Overdressed or underdressed
It depends on the occasion, but I’d generally underdress if unsure.
What’s your next big buy?
I would love a pair of Celine Audrey sunglasses for summertime, they always look so chic!
Favourite item
My grandmother’s engagement ring from the 1930s. Its Art Deco-style and I cherish it!
Trend to watch this season
It’s all about ’70s this season. Think utility, flares, and platforms fit for disco dancing in!
Five fashion tips
- If you like it, wear it.
- Confidence is key.
- Don’t feel pressured to splash out on the latest trends or must-have items.
- Have regular wardrobe clear-outs, and be ruthless!
- Never ignore your wardrobe staples. Invest in them, and choose wisely.
Where are your top spots to socialise?
In Dublin I love great coffee spots like Foam and Clement & Pekoe, and you can’t beat a frozen yoghurt with a friend at Yogism, so tasty! Market Bar is great for vino and calamari – I love the atmosphere there.
