It’s time for Bridgerton fans to get excited, as it’s almost time for season two to land on our screens. As the countdown is well and truly on, Nicola Coughlan has revealed what viewers can expect from her character in season two.

In the first season, we saw Nicola’s character, Penelope Featherington, being revealed as the anonymous gossip writer Lady Whistledown.

Speaking about this on Claudia Winkleman’s BBC Radio 2 show, Nicola shared: “[After] that reveal at the end of series one, you very much get to see behind the curtain in series two.

“We see how she gets away with the things that she gets away with. And for me, it was so much fun because in series one she’s a shy, retiring wallflower, and then series two you go, ‘Oh, she’s got all this new stuff going on’, and it was extremely fun to film.”

Continuing, Nicola shared that Penelope will “find her own path” in this season, particularly as she takes more control over her fashion choices. But the star also added that “wearing a corset for 14 hours is no one’s idea of fun”.

Just recently, Nicola also shared how she’d rather any focus on her to be about her talent rather than her own appearance. “I don’t want people to think that they own that part of me.

“If I want to turn around and become a hench-ass bodybuilder, if I want to shave my head or cover myself in tattoos, I’m going to do that… If I had a role to play, like, an Olympic gymnast, I will alter my body for that part, if that’s the part I want to play.”
