Like most things in life, being famous comes with its positives and negatives.

In fact, just recently Nicola Coughlan touched on some of the difficulties of fame she’s dealt with during her time as an actress.

Speaking with the Harper’s Bazaar UK the Galway native opened up about the negative side of social media which has seen opinions thrown at her like “grenades” and how fame “doesn’t come with a handbook”.

Despite absolutely loving what she does, Nicola noted that the constant scrutiny isn’t easy, adding: “Fame is a very strange consequence of doing my job”.

Continuing on, Nicola also said: “I have so much love and respect for the fans of things I’ve done.

“I want them to know that I feel grateful but it is difficult to navigate being online when people throw their opinions of you at you like grenades.”

Nicola then explained how she now tries to use social media accounts like Instagram to share and inform others about what’s going on in the world.

“I feel a deep responsibility, because of how privileged I am, to speak up and try to amplify voices and causes,” she shared.

Adding: “Social media has made the world a dangerously binary place; the ‘If you support X, you hate Y’ narrative is not something I am interested in, and I’ll do my best to fight against that notion.”

While Nicola may still be getting used to fame, it looks like the madness will continue for the next couple of months as we get ready for the release of Bridgerton season 3.

And with Penelope Featherington, played by our gal Nicola taking the reins, we’re guaranteed to be in for a treat.

Part One of Bridgerton season three is set to arrive on 16 May with part two premiering on 13 June.
