Paul Mescal and Kerry Condon Could Join The Academy
We're like proud mams over here.
It’s a great day for the Irish!
Earlier this year, both Paul Mescal and Kerry Condon were nominated for Oscars for their roles in Aftersun and The Banshees of Inisherin. (Which we cried our eyes out and laughed our heads off at, respectively).
While they didn’t win in their categories earlier this year, they still made an impression on the Academy.
Both actors have been invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose role includes voting in the Oscars. How exciting is that?
They’re not the only Irish names to be invited into the prestigious group.
An Cailín Ciúin director Colm Bairéad has also been among the people who have been invited to join.
Tom Berkeley and Ross White, whose short film An Irish Goodbye won the Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film, were invited to join the Short Films and Feature Animation category.
Irish producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, whose worked on films like Ammonite and Lady Macbeth, has also been invited.
The Academy has extended membership invitations to 398 individuals who have “distinguished themselves by their contributions to motion pictures”.
And isn’t it great that we have some Irish faces being recognised?
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has almost 10,000 members who vote to decide the nominees as well as the winners of the Oscars.
Oh, to be invited to join The Academy alongside Paul…
