People Are Upset That This Year’s Starbucks Red Cups Are, Er… Not Red

What is this madness?

Much like the annual arrival of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, the launch of the Starbucks winter-season cups are generally met with great fanfare.

Much like the Coca-Cola truck or the John Lewis ad, many shoppers view the Starbucks Red Cup as one of the signs Christmas is well and truly here. And it’s no different this year except for one thing: the cups are green, not red.

See?

The green cups are designed to celebrate “community,” paying tribute to the friends, coffee farmers and baristas who are involved in the Starbucks story, with “more than a hundred people drawn in one continuous stroke.”

They’re very different to the photos leaked on Imgur last week of the *supposed* red cups:

Before you go boycotting Starbucks though, it’s worth noting that the green cups may not be the only coloured cups launched by Starbucks this season. As Cosmopolitan point out, some of the leaked Imgur pictures of the red cups show signs that say “No peeking until November 10th,” which is still over a week away.

Fingers crossed, because we all know it’s not Christmas until you’re living your best basic life and sipping a Toffee Nut Latte from a red cup.
