If there’s one thing we need right now (among many, many other things) it’s a Whitney Houston biopic. And in some fantastic news to brighten up anyone’s Monday, it’s coming. The feature film portraying the late singer’s life and iconic music is currently titled ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. Of course, named after one of the best songs of all time, Whitney’s 1987 hit.

The film is in pretty early stages, there’s no word yet on the cast or the release date, but we do know that screenwriter Anthony McCarten is writing the script and producing the biopic. While Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, Pat Houston, will be producing the film, she was also involved in the previous 2018 documentary, Whitney.

And for the most important part, the plot, producers of the biopic have told Deadline that they aim to make a “joyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music of the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical superstardom. While being very frank about the price that super-stardom exacted, it will be both the rich and complex saga of the search for the perfect marriage between song and singer and audience, and at the same time the moving tale of a simple Jersey girl trying to find her way back home.”

It sounds divine, to be honest. We’ll keep you updated on the release date, fingers crossed it’s not too far in the future.
