We’ve all heard about the it girl matcha by now.

Think running errands, replying to emails, matcha in hand, fulfilling the aesthetic it-girl dream. We all want to be a matcha girl, but did you know that matcha is one of the most powerful forms of green tea?

For 1000 years it was only available to meditating monks but today it’s popular all over the world because of the amazing effects it has on us. This really is a trend we can get behind!

Matcha isn’t just a pretty face, it also has a lot of health benefits. It contains antioxidants, which may reduce cell damage and prevent chronic disease.

It has been shown to improve attention and memory, and some studies show that green tea extract helps increase metabolism and fat burning. Who knew my iced matcha latte order could be so powerful!

The matcha scene is growing in Ireland, and PerfectTed, the matcha brand that has taken London by a storm, has officially launched in Ireland.

Through their partnership with Oakberry, PerfectTed offer 6 new and exclusive flavours, one of which being the famous strawberry matcha latte that everyone is dying to try.

Powerscourt Townhouse’s The Matcha Bar and new matcha popup OMMA are also ensuring we can get our ceremonial grade fix while we’re out and about.

Now that we’ve all been convinced, here’s a quick and easy matcha recipe to make at home.

For this, you will only need three ingredients: matcha powder, almond milk (or any other kind of vegan substitute), and water.

You can also add sweetener if that’s what you’re into! A matcha whisk can be used but if you do not have one don’t fear, a small kitchen whisk or milk frother will also do the job.

1. First start by sifting your matcha powder, matcha clumps easily so by doing this you will make it easier for later on.

2. Add the matcha into a mug and then add the recently boiled water, whisking vigorously until the powder is fully dispersed.

3. Pour the warmed up almond milk into the mixture and whisk again to froth.

4. Finally add a sweetener if you choose and enjoy!

Now that we’ve learned the tools of the trade, we are free to go out and live our it-girl dream.
