You don’t need me to tell you that there’s been a whole lot of talk around Kim Cattrall’s absence from the SATC rebook And Just Like That. When it was announced, we collectively assumed that Kim turned down the offer to join the cast, but apparently, she was never invited to begin with.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed that âAnd Just Like That was never four [characters],â explaining that the intention for the series was always only to star just Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte (aka Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis).
This may be due to the fact that Kim Cattrall made it extremely clear that she was done with Sex and the City during negotiations about the third film in the series (I think we can all agree that the SATC films don’t need to be a trilogy).

âIt never was on the radar as four because Kim Cattrall, for whatever reason, didnât want to play Samantha anymore while we were doing the [third] movie,â Michael continued to explain.
âI never thought, âOh, thereâs a hole I have to fill.â Samantha doesnât not exist in their lives. The show was born of these three characters: Whatâs their life, and who can I bring in to inform it? Listen, I wouldnât do this again if I wasnât excited about the idea.
“And even though people think this is a franchise that theyâre familiar with, thereâs something new in this version. This isnât what was; itâs whatâs next.â

The new chapter of Sex and the City will follow the story of the original. Chronicling Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s instead of their 30s.
The reboot will also include plenty of new characters meaning some new cast members. Joining the crew will be Sara RamĂrez, Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury, and Karen Pittman.
The first two episodes of And Just Like That will be coming to Sky Comedy and streaming service Now TV on Thursday, 9th of December and each episode will air each Thursday afterwards.
