Something Super Cool Happens If You Write About Harry Potter On Facebook Today
Talk about spell-binding!
Today marks 20 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published (I know, we feel old too…) and to celebrate, Facebook has transformed itself into a magical, spell-casting social site for one day only.
If you use the words ‘Harry Potter’, or the names of the four Hogwarts houses, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin, in a status update then you’ll see an animation of a wand casting a spell.
Not only that, but the font will transform into the house colours – so any mention of Gryffindor will turn red while Slytherin will turn green. How nifty!

This morning, the incredible woman who brought the magical world to us in the first place took to Twitter to commemorate the occasion, saying, “20 years ago today a world that I had lived in alone was suddenly open to others. It’s been wonderful. Thank you.”

Since that day in 1997, six other books were written and published, eight films were produced and a couple of theme parks were built across the globe. In the space of two decades, Harry Potter has become a household name, and what better way to celebrate than cast a few spells while scrolling through social media?
