Sunrise On The Reaping Is Coming – Here’s What We Know So Far

A tear-jerker for sure

In November next year our screens will be blessed with the brand new Hunger Games film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – and it’s safe to say, we’re excited.

The film is based off Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel released in March of this year and is set forty year after the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and twenty four years prior to Katniss Everdeen’s first appearance.

We will again get to experience the amazing collaboration of Francis Lawrence, director of the Hunger Games franchise since 2012’s Catching Fire, and Bill Ray, the franchise’s screenwriter.

The film will begin in the city of Panem on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, and will be centred around a beloved character throughout the franchise played by Woody Harrelson, Haymitch Abernathy.

Naturally, seeing as this movie will take place twenty four years prior to Woody Harrelson’s appearance, there was call for a new cast.

Finally the leading roles have been announced! Joseph Zada, known for his roles in We Were Liars and Total Control has been cast as in the lead role of Haymitch, and Whitney Peak, known for her roles in the Gossip Girl reboot, Hocus Pocus ’ and Molly’s Game, has been cast as Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch’s girlfriend.

The Hunger Games franchise has been known to launch actors and actresses at the beginning of their careers into the spotlight, so it was no surprise when the casting call went out for Sunrise on the Reaping that the lead roles were in high demand.

Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Group told the public: “After auditioning hundreds of gifted performers from around the world, these two stood out—not just for their talent, but for the emotional truth they brought to these iconic roles.”

We can’t wait to see these two talented actors in their breakout roles and to see how they adapt an already amazing novel into a breath-taking film.
