Taylor Swift Made History At The Aviva This Weekend – & We Can See Why

“There’s glitter on the floor after the party,” Taylor Swift sings in her song New Year’s Day. And it’s safe to say there will be glitter across the capital city for the foreseeable future.

Whether you’re a diehard Swiftie or you’ve never heard a single song before, Ireland was taken by Taylor Swift fever over the weekend.

The American singer brought her Eras Tour to Ireland for three sold-out shows at the Aviva Stadium. She tells the crowd on her Sunday show that’s the first time anyone has sold out three nights in the stadium.

And it’s easy to see why.

It’s not just the 150,000 diehard Swifties who have come from all over the globe to see her on stage in Ireland, she also attracted A-Listers including Graham Norton, Julia Roberts and Stevie Nicks.

It’s no surprise these are the hottest tickets in town – literally. Taylor plays an impressive three-and-a-half-hour show that spans the entirety of her 18-year career.

As she rises from the floor, she tells the crowd – it’s been a long-time coming. And if you were one of the people who sat in the Ticketmaster queue last summer, it has been.

While we’ve seen discourse about her ticket prices, she’s making sure that you’re getting every cents’ worth.

The setlist has meticulously been picked, making sure she hits all her biggest hits. When Shake It Off comes on, I can see a breath of relief from dads who are there with their sequin-covered daughters. But she makes sure that there are some fan favourites on the set list – Fearless, August, My Tears Ricochet and Majorie, a song dedicated to her late grandmother.

She goes era to era – Lover, Fearless, Red, Speak Now, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore, 1989, her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, into her surprise songs and then finishing with Midnights.

Her surprise songs have been a treat for concert goers as she plays at least two songs that aren’t on the setlist… and Dublin was truly blessed!

Night one she played a mash-up of State of Grace and You’re on Your Own Kid as well as Sweet Nothing, which includes the lyrics, “Does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes” into Hoax.

Night two were treated to a mash-up of The Albatross and Dancing With Our Hands Tied as well as This Love into Ours. The love was really in the air that night.

For her final night, she dedicated her surprise songs to Stevie Nicks who was in the audience. She started with a mashup of Clara Bow, which contains the lyrics, “You look like Stevie Nicks in ’75” and The Lucky One. She then repeated You’re on Your Own Kid, as that is one of Stevie’s favourite songs.

Taylor finishes the night with an incredible rendition of Karma. When her boyfriend Travis Kelce surprised her in the VIP tent on Sunday night, she changed the lyrics from “Karma is the guy on the screen” to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs” – a reference to his football team, which sent the crowd into meltdown.

She sings, “Karma brings all my friends to the summit”. And after her fair share of scandals and feuds, from Kanye West to her song masters being sold to Scooter Braun, it looks like Karma has really ruled in her favour.
