Tell Me Lies Ends Suddenly With Season 3 – Here’s EYNTK

If only this was a lie...

Tell Me Lies first came to our screens in 2022, and immediately fans became obsessed. After all, a show set in college in the 2000s and 2010s with chaotic plots, manipulation, toxic relationships and crazy exes was bound to appeal to audiences.

The Hulu drama is based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel, and has recently become one of the most talked about series of the year.

And suddenly now, it’s ending.

Just hours before the highly anticipated season three finale dropped, showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer shared to her Instagram that the series has come to an end.

“After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind, and we are insanely proud of it,” she said.

“Your incredible response to this season inspired us to explore whether there was another organic way to continue the story, but ultimately, we felt it had reached its natural conclusion. My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you.

“And so, while it is bittersweet to leave something that has been such a happy experience, I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending – a privilege very few shows get. Thank you for loving our show. We are excited to bring you more stories in the near future.”

Fans were not shy to share their opinions on the post comments and Oppenheimer’s Instagram.

One fan said “I get it but then I don’t. People are just now discovering the show and it’s HUGE! You could have kept it up for 2 more seasons,” while another fan shared, “I’m so serious you couldn’t have ended this any worse, is this an absolute joke?”

We guess the news is not a complete shock as Oppenheimer had previously shared the show was only planned for three seasons. The main confusion though is how on earth the show is going to wrap up so… many… lies in only one more episode.

Grace Van Patten who plays Lucy told DEADLINE her opinions on the show’s ending, saying: “It was bittersweet. I think it’s so beautiful and rare that we got to do this for three seasons.

“We got really lucky that everybody loved the show and we were able to keep going, and it was so great. We were able to have a beginning, middle and end.”

Show creator Oppenheimer also shared, “Obviously we love making the show, and I love our audience, but I had had so many conversations with our writers, and when you actually look at what could happen next, Lucy’s not in school anymore. Most of the cast are graduating college in the future. They’re all living in different places. They’re not in the same industry.’’

For me, it was just about do I think there’s another season in here that’s going to be as good, that’s not going to feel like a completely different show? And I felt like it would have to be completely re-imagined. The framing device is over. So yeah, while it’s difficult, I think the worst case scenario would be turning in something I didn’t believe in.’’

Here’s a recap of the penultimate Tell Me Lies episode, if you need one (spoilers ahead, of course).

In the latest episode Bree (Catherine Missal) and Wrigley (Spencer House) finally solidified their relationship, only for Wrigley to then sleep with his ex-Pippa (Sonia Mena) who is secretly in love with Diana (Alice Crowder).

We also saw Steven (Jackson White) give extremely complicated ex Lucy (Grace Van Patten) back her confession tape, which just feels very out of character for Steven.

Elsewhere, Evan (Branden Cook) goes to Bree’s manipulative ex Oliver (Tom Ellis) for relationship advice?? Oh, and Bree finally connects the dots of Lucy and Evan’s cheating. And how on earth after all this drama, are they all back in a room together for the wedding of Bree and Evan?

So many storylines now must come together to give fans a deserving ending, and we can only hope the series finale delivers.
