After waiting almost two years for new episodes, Black Mirror finally released season seven and trust when we say it did not disappoint. Season seven included six brand new freaky concepts and contained a number of our favourite Hollywood stars to conduct their amazing performances.

If you’re a fan of Black Mirror you’re more than aware of the psychological twists and turns the show brings to its audience and of course, like any other season, these new episodes are no exception.

Many fans of the show were quick to realise that the creators of the show included many easter eggs, hints and clues to past episodes in their newest ones. Here’s a list of some of our favourite easter eggs in season seven of Black Mirror!

Episode 1 – Common People

Amanda’s first advert that she must recite takes place in her classroom where she discusses robotic bees, making reference to an old BM episode ‘Hated in the Nation’ and also makes reference to HoneyNugs which are owned by the brand Ditta which is a company another BM character works for.

Another easter egg in the episode is The Juniper Lodge where Mike and Amanda stay for their anniversary. The name of the lodge makes reference to past episode ‘San Junipero’. While at the lodge a familiar song plays ‘Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)’ which has appeared in six other BM episodes. Finally on the couples drive to the lodge we saw an advert for a new movie ‘Hotel Reverie’ which is the subject of another episode in season seven.

Episode 2 – Bête Noire

The largest easter egg in this episode which many fans noticed was the reference to Barnies Chicken which appeared in an earlier episode ‘Shut Up and Dance’ where the lead character Kenny worked. The restaurant also appears in three other BM episodes.

Barnies was not the only ‘Shut Up and Dance’ refence as one of Verity’s previous occupations WayHaven Travel appeared as a hotel in the episode. Ditta, where Maria and Verity work, share real estate with Tuckersoft which is the company that was introduced in Bandersnatch.

Episode 3 – Hotel Reverie

As mentioned before, Hotel Reverie already appeared in ‘Common People’. There are many easter eggs involving the ReDream team including one of the members wearing a Space Fleet t-shirt and TCKR (Tuckersoft)  computers which have featured in multiple BM episodes.

One of the packages Brandy receives is addressed to Junipero Drive, again referencing the previous episode. Towards the end of the episode we see the movie being streamed on Streamberry which was introduced during previous BM episode ‘Joan is Awful’.

Episode 4 – Plaything

Fans were very quick to notice the similarities between ‘Plaything’ and ‘Bandersnatch’ down to the video game theme running throughout but also because of the appearance of Bandersnatch’s Colin Ritman played by Will Poulter. Plaything is a continuation to the Bandersnatch episode.

We can also see other easter eggs in Ritman’s office with posters referencing ‘Striking Vipers’, ‘The Waldo Moment’ and ‘Bandersnatch II’.

Episode 5 – Eulogy

This episode was a tear jerker for sure however, there weren’t any easter eggs found throughout as it focuses specifically on the past. However, the small piece of technology Philip uses to travel into the photos is the same device that appears in ‘Entire History of You’ and ‘Hotel Reverie’.

Episode 6 – USS Callister: Into Infinity

The sequel we’ve all been waiting for. The hospital that appears in the episode where Nanette stays is called St. Juniper, another San Junipero reference. Towards the end of the episode there is a newsreel playing on the TV which makes reference to the seven different season of BM.

The newsreel mentions Hotel Reverie and Streamberry, Thronglets 2, and ‘Demon 79’ as one of the talisman was found in the wreckage, the CTO of RiverMind resigns and Michael Callow from ‘National Anthem’ enters a celebrity vet school.
