EYNTK About All Her Fault – The Andrea Mara Crime Adaptation
Starring a Succession star, nonetheless
There’s a particular kind of chill that comes from a mystery that is set close to home, that goosebump, hair raising feeling – and All Her Fault delivers exactly that. The new Sky crime series, based on Irish author Andrea Mara’s bestselling novel, pulls viewers into a nightmare scenario: finding out your child has vanished.
This show follows a tail of twist and turns as the secrets and lies of the people we think we love best begin to unravel. With sharp performances and a tense atmosphere that begs for a binge-watch, All Her Fault is shaping up to be one of the most addictive thrillers of the year. And trust us, you will be clearing your schedule to catch up on all drama.
The show starts off with Marissa and her family. They live in a quaint American suburb built around community and trust. However, her life takes a harrowing turn when she goes to collect her son from a playdate, only to find she doesn’t recognise the woman at the door, and that woman has no knowledge of the son’s existence. Every parent’s nightmare becomes Marissa reality as she finds out her son has been kidnapped.
As the investigation kicks off, we learn deep family secrets behind Marissa’s “perfect” family, and the seemingly ideal community the vanishing occurred in. Expect twists and turns as one mother tries to find the culprit behind this kidnapping and hidden lies are revealed and skeletons are unearthed.
The series stars an array of incredible actors with Sarah Snook, best known for her role in Succession, leading and her husband Peter being played by Jake Lacey. Dakota Fanning also appears as Marissa’s right hand women, Jenny, while Narcos: Mexico actor Michael Pena plays Detective Alcaras, who is handling this mind twisting case.
The show is produced, written and created by Megan Gallagher, alongside Nigel Marchant, who directed Downton Abbey. Gallgher says she worked closely with author Mara for the screen adaptation. Some changes have been made for TV of course – instead of being set in our home capital of Dublin, the series takes place in Chicago.
When speaking to RTÉ about the book’s adaptation, Mara called the whole experience surreal, particularly when she was in New York, “watching the premiere sitting near Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning was another amazing, surreal moment from a year of surreal moments!”

While the show is every parent’s nightmare scenario, the plot is only loosely based on real events. Mara says the idea came to her after she went to pick up her own daughter from a friend’s house. “Ten years ago, my young daughter was on playdate. I had met parents before at a coffee morning. Then the day I went to pick her up, there was nobody at the house. I remember peering through the glass, and there was no furniture to be seen, and I immediately thought ‘oh my god, she has been kidnapped.'”
Mara then realised that the family had moved three streets away. Panic was averted, but she kept the experience in her back pocket for a future novel.
Reviews for the crime drama have been favourable, with Rotten Tomatoes rating the show 77% and television critics praising the performances of Snook and Fanning.
So, if you need a new show to binge watch, or desperately need to find out that big plot twist, you can watch All Her Fault on Sky Atlantic or on NOW.
