The plot

Season one of the show brought all kinds of dark and troubling storylines to life.

We watched as the zombie outbreak began, how Joel became an illegal hustler to survive, and how a rebellion was brewing under the surface of the city.

We also met Ellie, the only living example of someone who is infected but hasn’t turned, and watched as her and Joel built a sweet relationship.

At the end of the series, we learned that in order to save the world Ellie needed to die – but Joel wasn’t about to let that happen.

While Ellie was taken into an operating room under the pretence of running a few ‘tests’, Joel murdered dozens of people to rescue her, then told her it was an Infected outbreak and they’d barely escaped.

So – what’s in store for next time?

We have to reckon that Ellie will find out the truth; she needs to die in order for the antidote to be discovered. How will this affect her relationship with Joel?

Only time will tell!

Those who have played the video game will also know that there’s some new characters to be introduced; namely the formidable Abby Anderson.

We won’t give anything away, but Abby will be a big part of the next instalment of the show.

We also know there’ll be some romance in season two, between Ellie and new character Dina.

Bella Ramsay discussed it while chatting to Collider.

“I’m looking forward to…the Dina storyline. Because obviously, I had the one episode in Season 1 with Ellie and Riley, but to have it as a storyline throughout the whole of the second game in terms of Ellie and Dina is really exciting.”

Who’s in it?

We know that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay are returning as Ellie and Joel, but the producers have been tightlipped about the rest of the cast so far!

When asked by the Hollywood Reporter if they had cast the character of Abby, show runner Craig Mazin laughed and said “maybe.”

He went on, “Look, Abby was the first role that we wanted to tackle. We’ve got a pretty good track record of making major cast announcements and people going ‘really?’ which will probably continue.

“So people may disagree, but I think we got it right so far and the audience seems to feel we got it right and the Academy seems to feel we got it right.”

Intriguing!

When will it be here?

As a result of the SAGAFTRA strikes, preparation for the second season was put on pause.

However, Craig confirmed to Variety that production of The Last Of Us season two will begin February 24th 2024!

That sadly means we won’t be getting Ellie and Joel back on our screens until 2025, though hopefully it’ll come out early that year.

Either way, we aren’t going anywhere – we’re hanging on the edge of our seats!
