Emily in Paris is…well, a complicated show. Some love it, some loathe it, and some of its haters decided to make their feelings known in a very public way by spray painting on one of the show’s billboards.

The graffiti featured clownish makeup on Emily, including a red nose, undereye bags, and scribbles on her face and cheeks. Tres chic, Emily!

However, Lily Collins, the show’s star who plays Emily herself, had the last laugh.

She and her husband Charlie McDowell took a trip to see the billboard and do an Instagram shoot. In the hilarious video Lily posted, Charlie walks down the street casually, only to walk past the billboard and jump out of fear at Emily’s new look.

Lily also posted a pic of herself smiling in front of the billboard. She captioned the post with, “I can’t say I love the new look, Em. But A for effort…” We’ve got to love that sense of humour!

Lily’s co-stars quickly rallied around to show some support. Ashley Park, who plays our favourite Mindy, showed some love and commented, “She’s a class act, everyone, 👏”

While Kevin Dias, who plays Benoît, Mindy’s bandmate and love interest, saw the humour in the situation and commented with a chain of cry-laughing emojis.

This is far from the first time the show has been taunted. After its premiere in 2020, Emily in Paris received a lot of criticisms and plenty of internet mockery, but Lily always takes it in her stride.

She told Vogue Arabia, “As disheartening as it sometimes is to read these things, it’s also a gift; you’re being allowed to improve.”

And the show did take on board many of the critic’s points. In this season, they featured more French-language scenes and held Emily accountable for her mistakes, which were two big issues people had with the show in the first season.

The show has yet to be renewed for a third series, but it was number one on Netflix’s trending list, so a renewal is pretty likely. And after the cliffhanger ending, fans probably won’t rest until they’re promised a season 3 and an answer to the love triangle…or is it a love square now?
