Former Love Island star Dr Alex George has officially joined the Six O’Clock Show team as their new resident medic.

The A&E doctor who appeared on the hit dating show in 2018, has spent last number of years working tirelessly in hospitals looking after the sickest of people, particularly since 2020 as he’s been on the front line helping to fight Covid-19.

Dr Alex will now be joining Muireann O’Connell and Martin King every month to go through the latest medical news, and break it down into easy, digestible pieces people of all ages will understand.

Just last week Dr Alex was appointed UK youth mental health ambassador by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet and I’m not sure it ever will. I am truly humbled,” he said.

He continued, “In my role, I will be working closely with the Government to make mental health an absolute priority. Never has mental health been more important than now.

“From schools to universities, the NHS and the wider public, mental health matters. For the current as well as future generations, we must do everything in our power to bring meaningful change.”

Following the tragic sudden passing of his brother Llyr, he wants to help as many young people as he can.

“Nothing will bring my brother back but if I can make a positive impact that saves even one life, it will be worth moving mountains for.

“There is much work to be done. Particularly in the coming weeks and months. Thanks to each and every one of you for your incredible support.

“I hope I can make you all proud. Most of all I hope I can make my brother proud, we will do it together my boy.”

The Six O’Clock Show airs weeknights at 6pm on Virgin Media One
