The MTV VMAs 2020 are set to go ahead in just under three weeks. The award show which will take place on August 30 in New York City is set to be an outdoor event this year unlike previous years when it took place within the Barclays Center to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Apparently, this year’s event will have a limited number of audience members and so, won’t feature any major red carpet moments or a ticketed seating area and instead, will see numerous outdoor performances around the city, accommodating to a small number of guests.

In a statement, MTV confirmed the awards got the green light this year by telling People that the “2020 VMAs will be held on Sunday, August 30th and pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines.”

Keke Palmer is set to host the event, announcing that she will be sharing “summer’s biggest stage with the world’s biggest artists,” and that she will, with BTS, Doja Cat and J Balvin to name a few set to be performing live.

And in terms of nominations, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are leading the way with a staggering nine nods each. Followed behind by Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, who have six.

The 2020 VMAs will air live on Sunday, August 30 across MTV’s linear and digital platforms, showcasing the multiple outdoor events in New York City.
