The Queen’s Gambit Season Two? Here’s What We Know So Far

Is the hit Netflix show set to make a return in 2022?

It was one of the standout shows from 2020; not to take away from Bridgerton, of course, which broke all records when it was released on Christmas Day. But nevertheless, The Queen’s Gambit was one of the big heavy hitters and a show we were all fascinated by from the get-go when it was released late last year.

Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and based off Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel, the series was like no other, following a chess prodigy by the name of Beth Harmon as she schooled her competitors and rose to fame in a male dominated sport, becoming the best there was.

And since we now know the show is being adapted for the stage, could we see the limited series returning for a second season despite claims it never would?

Well, thankfully, Anya Taylor-Joy isn’t ruling it out. Telling Elle that it’s not totally off the cards.

“It would be silly of me to go, ‘There’s going to be a second series,” and then I’m 40, and Scott’s like, ‘Yo, how do you feel about this? You want to go back?”‘

As for where she’d like to see her character Beth Harmon go in season two – if – it was to come to be, Anya has some pretty well thought out ideas for Beth.

“I hope she starts doing things for her own enjoyment. I’d like Beth to pick up Benny and spend some time with him in Russia, just the two of them being snobby intellectuals together, and I hope she has a Bowie phase,” Taylor-Joy said.

Neither director Scott Frank or other onscreen talent like Thomas Brodie-Sangster have confirmed a second season, but since the show was so popular, we’d love to see more, and equally more awards for the production too.

Scooping up some seriously impressive awards for season one, Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit won Golden Globes for Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance and Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television to name but a few.

Fingers crossed it comes back, Netflix gods, if you’re listening.
