It’s been two years since it was first announced that we would be getting a movie chronicling the life of the one and only Whitney Houston, and now we finally have a trailer of what can only be described as EPIC!

Titled, I Wanna Dance With Somebody the teaser shows us how it all began for the talented singer as Clive Davis (Stanley Tucci) arrives at a club where he hears the vocal powerhouse for the first time. He asks, “What’s your name again?”, before signing Whitney (Naomi Ackie) to his record label Columbia Records.

And the best part of it all, the real Clive Davis is actually one of the producers of the film!! So you know we’re going to get a pretty accurate representation of it all.

In the trailer, which is soundtracked to the Houston hit of the same name, fans can see Ackie embody the signature energy and light of the legendary singer as she belts “how I want to sing” and acts “how I want to be.”

Offering glimpses into both the groundbreaking moments that propelled the singer to stardom and the struggles she faced in her personal life, the trailer highlights her quick rise to fame. From when she heard her voice on the radio for the first time to her iconic performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” at the 1991 Super Bowl.

According to the official synopsis, we can expect a “no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multifaceted woman behind The Voice,” with audiences being taken on an “inspirational, poignant—and so emotional—journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career.”

This film will be the latest, somewhat of a resurgence of music biopics in recent years, with Respect, Elvis, and The United States Vs. Billie Holiday all having been released since 2021 alone.

So when can we expect to see it in theatres? Pretty soon actually, as it’s set for a December 21st release. Happy Christmas all!
