Since lockdown began lots of people we know have started new hobbies. For some it’s yoga, knitting, baking banana bread or even tackling your first ever couch to 5k.

Something we now wish we’d started is roller skating, ever since we started following internet sensation Oumi Janta. The Senegalese skater lives in Berlin and has gained a huge following on Insta over the past few weeks.

If you don’t already follow her, prepare to be obsessed.

Her videos will literally brighten your day as she skates around to 70’s classics like Barry White and Sister Sledge. Her outfits are also unreal and make us want to dress up and head down to our local skate park.

Although we wish we could glide around to the beat seamlessly like Oumi we think we’ll need a little practice.

Speaking to InStyle she revealed that she started skating about six years ago; “me and a friend went to a roller disco pretty spontaneously, and I totally fell in love with rollerskating.”

“All those people where dancing with each other. No one cared about gender or age or looks. I felt really welcome.”

The whole vibe of her videos do feel welcoming and totally joyful and Oumi also has started teaching lessons as well as well as running roller discos in her hometown of Berlin.
