Whether you’re into rap or not, you’ve most likely heard of 21 Savage.

The British American rapper, born Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is one of the most popular musicians of our generation.

Now, he’s getting a biopic – and it’s got a seriously star studded cast!

Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin will be starring as a young Shéyaa, while Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) will star as the rapper when he’s older.

Donald Glover makes a natural choice for the role, as he’s obviously also a rapper in the industry. Not only that, the musician is most recently known for his TV Show Atlanta, about the rise of a rapper called Paper Boi.

21 Savage moved from London to Atlanta with his mother when he was seven – so we can see why he and Donald might share some interests!

So, what do we know so far about the flick?

It’s called American Dream, and it will touch on different stages in Shéyaa’s life.

We can see from the trailer that Caleb portrays the young rapper using music as an outlet, as he faces hardship in school and at home.

Later, Donald will mirror how Shéyaa broke onto the music scene in Atlanta, making waves in the hip-hop world.

The film will cover the highs and lows experienced by the rapidly rising star, including when he was arrested by ICE and held in an immigration detention centre in 2019 for ten days.

We’ll also get to see some surrounding characters from Shéyaa’s life, including long time collaborator Metro Boomin (played by Jabari Banks).

According to Variety, other famous faces in the cast include Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne, The Haunting Of Hill House’s Victoria Pedretti, and Beef’s Young Mazino.

We don’t know yet when the film will be released, but we are getting new music “inspired” by it on January 12th!

A snippet of an upcoming song can be heard in the trailer, and the lyrics seem to touch on what the themes of the film might be.

“Memories in my head, the devil talkin’ to me / I know Satan down that path, but God walkin’ with me /  Put your phone light in the air if you done lost a n***a / Kept it solid, ran up a bag and didn’t have to cross a  n***a.”

We wonder will 21 Savage and Childish Gambino be collaborating…?

Exciting!
